The North Korean Consul General in Shenyang was included in the "US sanctions list" and foreign media questioned Geng Shuang

CCTV News:On October 27th, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang answered questions from Chinese and foreign journalists on the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

Q: First, the US Treasury Department announced further sanctions against North Korea, including seven North Koreans and three institutions, including the North Korean Consul General in Shenyang. Has China communicated with the US on this? Will the DPRK Consul General in Shenyang be expelled? Second, will Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou visit Japan from today to the 29th? Will you discuss the China-Japan-ROK leaders’ meeting and the peninsula issue during your visit to Japan?

A: On your first question, we have noticed relevant reports. Our position is very clear. China has always disapproved of a country imposing unilateral sanctions on other countries outside the framework of the UN Security Council according to its domestic laws.

On your second question, I can confirm that Assistant Minister Kong Xuanyou went to Japan on October 27th to hold a Sino-Japanese security dialogue and exchange views with Japan on bilateral relations and other issues.

Q: On the issue of US sanctions against North Korea, you just said that China will not expel the North Korean Consul General in Shenyang, despite the relevant statements issued by the State Council and the Ministry of Finance, and the State Council said that he has expressed concern to China on this matter, right?

A: I would like to reiterate that China has always comprehensively, accurately, conscientiously and strictly implemented the UN Security Council resolutions concerning the DPRK. At the same time, we will maintain normal exchanges and cooperation with the DPRK on the basis of following the resolutions of the Security Council.
