The "Geely Made" mobile phone was released, and Lin Jie interpreted how Lynk & Co and Meizu interconnected "without boundaries"
Reporter, Gao Feichang’s "Geely Made" mobile phone is finally here. On March 30, Meizu and Lynk & Co held a "Boundless" ecological conference, Meizu released the latest MEIZU20 series mobile phone, and the LYNK Flyme Auto system carried by Lynk & Co’s new energy model Lynk & Co 08 was also unveiled.
The cross-border integration of mobile phones and automobiles has been a very hot topic in the past two years. First, mobile phone companies such as Huawei, Xiaomi, and Apple entered the automotive industry one after another, and then automotive companies in turn made mobile phones, such as Geely and NIO.
With the development of smart cars, the automotive industry has gradually become mainstream: in the second half of smart cars, the automotive industry is no longer a single-line technological innovation, but will be deeply integrated with intelligent technology to create a full-scene intelligent experience for users. On the product side, smart cars, smart phones, and smart homes together form a multi-end point ecosystem.
After several years of multi-faceted layout, Geely’s technology ecosystem has built a technology research and development system covering artificial intelligence, non-sensory interaction, heaven and earth communication, and cross-border interconnection. Its goal is to create a "multi-end point integrated mobile travel ecosystem". As Li Shufu, chairperson of Geely Holding Group, said at the press conference, "In the future, the two industries of smart cars and smart phones will no longer go their own way, but will jointly face users. The integrated relationship of multi-end point, full scene and immersive experience."
The story of mobile phone and car companies from "love and kill each other" to "common goals" became a reality with the launch of the cooperation between Lynk & Co and Meizu. But at this stage, how is the cross-border integration between Lynk & Co and Meizu performing? What kind of value will it bring to users? For these questions, this conference has revealed some answers. For example, the interaction between the car system of Lynk & Co 08 has reached the same level of "silky" as the interaction of Meizu 20 series mobile phones.
On the same day, Lin Jie, senior vice president of Geely Automobile Group and general manager of Lynk & Co Automobile Sales Company, was withWhen communicating with the media, he interpreted the cooperation between Lynk & Co and Meizu from more aspects. He talked about the development of Lynk & Co’s intelligent path, the cooperation between Lynk & Co and Meizu in the sales field, and the direction of Lynk & Co’s future electric intelligent transformation.
The Upgrade Road of Lynk & Co
Auto companies make mobile phones and then bring the functions of mobile phones to cars. This is a beautiful vision, but it is also a problem. Due to the different computing power requirements of car-grade chips, car operating systems and smartphones, and the systems used, there is a gap in software compatibility. At present, the experience of using cars is generally not as good as that of mobile phones. Therefore, only by connecting cars and mobile phones from the bottom is the first step to improve the level of car-machine interaction.
According to the data, the new generation of electronic and electrical architecture adopted by Lynk & Co 08 provides the underlying support for the "unbounded interconnection of handcars". The Antola 1000Pro computing platform installed in the car for the first time integrates two self-developed "1" chips with ultra-high computing power, with a total NPU computing power of 16TOPS (int8) and a total GPU computing power of 1800G (FLOPS), bringing a strong computing power guarantee.
The intelligent cockpit car-machine system LYNK Flyme Auto created by the integration of Lynk & Co and Meizu can realize functions such as unlocking the car, navigating circulation, and applying cross-border applications. Specifically, by adding dynamic adaptive interaction on the traditional Dock bar, the system can intelligently match the needs of different scenes and intuitively present key information at any time; the smart small window mode of multi-tasking on the same screen can realize lightweight opening, temporary intervention, and flexible jumping, so as to solve a large number of temporary interaction needs; the intelligent Aicy voice assistant can realize multi-round conversations in combination with context, and can also realize various functions such as visible and spoken, custom wake-up words, emotional TTS, and VPA images. And "Ruran Air Conditioning" creates a more natural and intelligent environmental adjustment system from the perspective of vision, hearing, and perception.
It should be noted that at this stage, users must first have a Meizu smartphone to use richer functions on Lynk & Co cars. Without a mobile phone, the car system is also quite powerful, but it cannot be extended to the mobile phone ecosystem.
"There are two Flyme systems, one is called FlymeAuto, which has high requirements on the hardware of the car and machine. Currently, it only supports Lynk & Co 08. The other is called FlymeLink, which requires the use of Meizu’s mobile phone. The adaptation of Flyme Link to Lynk & Co’s car is about to start. It is not a simple mapping (such as Carplay), but more attention is paid to the sharing of computing power, data sharing, hardware sharing, and ecological application sharing, and continues to expand the upper limit of the car and machine performance and experience." Lin Jie said that the greatest value of Flyme Link to Lynk & Co at the moment is to renovate some old cars with insufficient memory and computing power, so that the computing power of the mobile phone can directly enhance the computing power of the car.
The development of connected applications was the pursuit of the Lynk & Co brand at the beginning of its establishment, but since Lynk & Co has been released in 2016, there is a generation difference in the car system on many of its models, and not all old models can achieve a good OTA upgrade effect. Lin Jie introduced that the Lynk & Co car is divided into three generations. The first generation is fully developed in accordance with European standards. The entertainment functions only retain navigation and music, and are realized through Carplay. All other functions are used for car control. The second stage uses 820A/E03 chips, which is more than 10 times more powerful than the first generation. The third generation car uses 8155 chips, provided that the electronic and electrical architecture of the Lynk & Co brand is upgraded first, and on this basis, it has the ability to be upgraded by OTA.
From Lynk & Co 08, Lynk & Co’s cockpit system will enter a new stage of development. According to Lin Jie, Lynk & Co already has a thousand-person-level self-developed smart cockpit "talent pool", and has currently developed the LYNK OS N cockpit system. At the same time, Lynk & Co and Meizu have joined hands to build an ecological partnership of unbounded interconnection and deep integration, providing a "powerful and growing" intelligent bottom-layer capability for the unbounded interconnection of handcars, which will achieve a new leap forward.
Cross-border integration covers technology, sales, and user communities
In the cockpit system, Lynk & Co actually has two systems, one is Lynk & Co’s self-developed LYNK OS N, and the other is Meizu’s Flyme Auto system. How will these two systems be applied to models in the future?
In this regard, Lin Jie said that the two systems will learn from each other and continue to iterate and evolve into a product form that is more suitable for user requests. The LYNK OS N system was developed by Lynk & Co, and it is no worse than Flyme Auto in performance. The Meizu team is also supporting the OS N system, and the technology of the two teams is the same origin. "[OS N] Why did we release it quickly, because we felt that time could not wait. At that time, we didn’t know when Flyme Auto would be realized, so we quickly made what could be realized," Lin Jie explained.
In other words, the cross-border integration between Lynk & Co and Meizu is still in a stage of parallel development. As for whether to fully integrate in the future, that is, only one of the systems is used, and further running-in planning between Lynk & Co and Meizu is still pending.
In fact, the current decision of Lynk & Co and Meizu is in line with the current stage characteristics of their respective industries. On the one hand, whether Meizu mobile phones can succeed in the market is still an unknown, which will determine whether they can gain a wide range of users and whether the ecosystem behind them can supply more cars.
Is it more difficult to make a car or a mobile phone? This is not a difficult question to answer. Car companies generally believe that the production of mobile phones by car companies is a "dimensionality reduction blow" for mobile phone manufacturers. This view makes sense in terms of manufacturing itself. But the mobile phone industry is not just about entering, let alone making mobile phones and selling them well. In the past two years, with the continuous decline of smartphone shipments, the competition in the mobile phone market has already been very fierce.
On the other hand, as Lynk & Co is a company within the Geely system, adopting Flyme Auto is a shortcut to achieve good selling points, but Meizu Flyme Auto’s ambition is to target more brands in the automotive industry, not all of them to Lynk & Co. Both Lynk & Co and Meizu are betting in both directions. Only when the two develop and grow in their respective fields can a better ecosystem be formed.
In addition to the construction of the product ecosystem, Lynk & Co will also integrate with Meizu in the end point channel to explore the full scene and experiential offline sales space of "smart car + smart phone". On April 2, Meizu’s first experience store will open in Wuhan, where users can taste Lynk & Co 08 up close at the Meizu experience store. Lynk & Co’s first brand user experience center will officially open in the second quarter of this year in Hangzhou Xizi Lake, when users can also experience Meizu 20 series mobile phones in the store. The two sides will also jointly organize joint activities between Co and Meizu to achieve deep linkage between the two user communities.
Lin Jie said that the sales of Lynk & Co 08 will be different from the existing Lynk & Co sales method. Lynk & Co’s direct connection center and Lynk & Co’s authorization center will be established in first- and second-tier cities across the country to form a combination of channels. At the same time, Meizu channels with car entry conditions will also be considered.
It is understood that Lynk & Co 08 is a plug-in hybrid model under Lynk & Co, and only provides new energy versions. In the future, Lynk & Co will fully transform into a new energy vehicle brand. In the past seven years, Lynk & Co has focused on mid-to-high-end, and its cumulative sales have exceeded 800,000 vehicles so far, becoming the only brand in China that has successfully achieved mid-to-high-end breakthroughs. Since Lynk & Co 08, Lynk & Co is about to enter an accelerated period of new energy transformation. Therefore, Lynk & Co seeks new changes in sales channels.
"Everyone sees that the channel layout of new forces is completely different from that of traditional car companies. They are mainly located in urban complexes. Often in these areas, our network does not enter, so we will have a cooperation with Meizu on the channel to form complementary advantages in the channel," Lin Jie said.
From cockpit technology to sales channels to user communities, Lynk & Co and Meizu hope to achieve a scale effect of 1 + 1 > 2. But the final integration effect of the two also depends on what results can be achieved in their respective markets.
